BISP Special Focus Program Overview
The BISP Special Focus in Media, Communication, and Storytelling is for visiting students who are interested in fields such as communication, marketing, international media, journalism, visual arts, media studies, psychology, sociology, rhetoric, culture studies and other fields in which communication, media and storytelling have an impact.
The BISP Special Focus in Media, Communication, and Storytelling consists of multidisciplinary fields and courses focused on the connections between media, communication, culture and representation and its impacts on how different groups in society are perceived. Students will acquire a foundation in understanding the media’s role in creating culture and culture’s role in the media. Interdisciplinary coursework will prepare students for diverse and innovative career tracks across global industries, including communication, digital marketing, social media, and journalism.
Learning Goals
By pursuing this BISP Special Focus, you will gain:
- UC Berkeley academic credit in a focused set of courses tailored to your interests in media, communication, storytelling, and culture.
- Faculty guidance on a culminating certificate project in which you will synthesize learnings and insight gained through your coursework and research at UC Berkeley.
- Research and analytical skills through approaching media, storytelling and culture from multiple perspectives.
- Communication and presentation skills through your participation in the BISP Special Focus program and coursework.
